Next generation careers planning resource
Tahatū Career Navigator is the next generation of the current careers.govt.nz website, refreshing the best of its content, tools and functions. It will deliver complex careers information in a useful and interactive way to help all New Zealanders make informed career decisions at any stage in their lives.
Tahatū Career Navigator connects NCEA school subjects, qualifications and careers and shows the most common ways others have taken to get to that career or job. It brings this information together for the first time in one place, profiling nearly 100 school subjects, 4,000 qualifications and 800 career ideas.
Tahatū Career Navigator will become a trusted source of careers information across Aotearoa New Zealand and a key resource for those providing careers support and advice.
Tahatū Career Navigator is an important initiative under the National Careers System Strategy and Action Plan.

Priority audiences
Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled people and women are priority audiences for Tahatū Career Navigator, as they have traditionally been disadvantaged in the workforce. Tahatū Career Navigator will help to overcome barriers for these groups in accessing quality careers information.
Tahatū Career Navigator pilot has been completed
We piloted Tahatū Career Navigator with 62 secondary schools and kura kaupapa Māori between April and November 2024. The pilot enabled students, schools and kura to use Tahatū Career Navigator, while TEC received valuable feedback from a range of industry stakeholders – helping to inform improvements to website content, features, user experience and accessibility.
Launch plan for 2025
We are launching Tahatū Career Navigator to all secondary schools and kura on 3 March 2025. The launch will be accompanied by a range of onboarding sessions, activities and resources. These will support teachers and career advisers to use Tahatū Career Navigator and integrate the website into their careers planning with students.
We’ll be launching Tahatū Career Navigator to all New Zealanders and decommissioning the careers.govt.nz website later in 2025. In preparation for this wider launch, we’ll continue to make a range of content and feature updates to the website.
