TEC has created four short videos to help businesses understand how they and their industries can benefit as the reformed vocational education and training (VET) system gains momentum.
In the new VET system, there is a stronger focus on delivering the skills that businesses need in the workplace, providing more support and flexibility for their employees / learners to learn in a way that best suits them and to earn while they learn, and ensuring greater consistency in delivery across Aotearoa New Zealand.
“You can sense a real enthusiasm and excitement in the videos about the possibilities the new VET system offers businesses, industries and learners,” said TEC Deputy Chief Executive, Delivery, Gillian Dudgeon.
A main video and three case study videos show how Workforce Development Councils (WDCs) and Regional Skills Leadership Groups (RSLGs) are working on behalf of employers and industries, and how engaging with these groups can influence what education and training is delivered to ensure the right skills are being developed to meet market needs now and in the future.
The case studies cover the new outpatient facility of the Dunedin hospital and the range of skills required to build this entire $1.5 billion infrastructure project; efforts to create a new level 5 forestry leadership qualification; and the Taranaki Regional Skills Leadership Group’s work to support short- and long-term skills planning for the energy sector’s transition to a carbon-neutral future.
“We urge businesses to get involved and make the most of the opportunities to grow a skilled workforce to meet the needs of a fast-changing future of skills, learning and work,” said Ms Dudgeon.
The videos are hosted on TEC’s YouTube channel and available at Information for businesses.
