Literacy and numeracy
Many New Zealand adults of all ages want to develop better literacy and numeracy skills for work, study or life in general. There are many reasons that someone may not have picked up all the skills they need at school. The skills you want and need may also change during the course of your life. If you have reached a point where you want to develop new skills, contact a local provider offering literacy and numeracy learning.

Another option is Adult Community Education (ACE) programmes, which offer informal learning.
To find a local ACE programme see Find ACE courses – ACE Aotearoa.
Young people
If you are aged under 25 and left school without the skills you need, you may be able to enrol in a Youth Guarantee programme. These courses are specially designed to help young people move into employment or higher study. You can earn NCEA credits or credits towards other vocational training. Youth Guarantee programmes support your wellbeing and provide assistance with travel costs and pathway planning.
English language learning
There are government-funded English language programmes for migrants and former refugees. These programmes focus on the basic English skills needed to function in society, not academic English or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
