Final stage of 2024 strategic funding allocations for PTEs nearing completion
The 2024 PTE Strategic Fund will invest over $20 million in private training establishments (PTEs) for vocational education and training (VET) initiatives and to support innovative new provision for learners.
The 2024 PTE Strategic Fund will invest over $20 million in private training establishments (PTEs) for vocational education and training (VET) initiatives and to support innovative new provision for learners.
The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) ran a contestable process in late 2023 for all eligible PTEs to apply for funding to respond to national and regional skills priorities, or to develop or maintain VET programmes.
That process saw $8.9 million allocated to 50 PTEs for 61 VET initiatives through the PTE Strategic Fund. We received 122 proposals from 79 PTEs.
The 2024 fund was not fully allocated through this competitive process. The TEC is working with the PTE sector to ensure all strategic funding is allocated for 2024. We will allocate the remaining funding across the sector based on a set of eligibility and risk criteria, and on a pro rata basis determined by the PTE’s existing vocational funding.
“This funding both builds on last year’s initiatives and supports new projects for 2024. The specific initiatives identified in the competitive process demonstrated awareness of the needs of New Zealand, and will support industry, employers and learners to meet these needs for the benefit of both the national economy and in our regions. The distribution of the remaining funding will give PTEs the opportunity to be as well placed as they can be to better meet those needs, and have the tools to do so,” said Deputy Chief Executive – Delivery, Gillian Dudgeon.
“We will continue to work with industry advisors and regional leaders to understand national and regional labour skills needs as they evolve.”
Successful proposals from the first round include:
- promoting careers in iwi Māori primary land-based industries in Te Tairāwhiti
- regional web development programmes
- improving rural connectivity and the delivery of online learning
- development of a new cybersecurity qualification
- the use of mixed reality and augmented reality technologies to improve content for plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying apprentices, and
- development of an integrated pathway that aligns attraction, job placement, training, and retention efforts for the dairy sector.
The list of successful proposals from the contestable round is below.
